KEYNOTE SPEAKER: CAPTAIN GUY GRUTERSA 1964 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Captain Guy Gruters flew more than 400 combat missions in the Vietnam War and was awarded more than 30 combat awards, including two Silver Stars, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, two Bronze Stars for Valor, two Purple Hearts, the POW Medal, and more than 20 Air Medals. He was shot down in 1967 and spent the next five years in POW camps, including the notorious “Hanoi Hilton,” where he met and cared for the mortally wounded Captain Lance Sijan. Gruters’ later testimony was instrumental in Capt. Sijan receiving the United States’ highest military award — the Medal of Honor — posthumously for his selflessness and courage in the face of lethal danger. Capt. Gruters will relate the incredible experiences of his capture and share a unique message of how his faith and hope sustained him.
